Trim the list of entries in Safari's Downloads window

An alternative would be to have a folder in your bookmarks bar called, e.g. "DLs." You could then drag and drop the links to any downloads you would like to get at a later time to that folder name, and bookmarks would be added to the folder in chronological order.

Then when you feel like actually downloading the downloads, either choose just one from the list or command-click on the "DLs" folder name in the bookmarks bar to download them all simultaneously.

Two potential drawbacks of this method are:
1. You'll have to manually clean out the "DLs" bookmarks folder after downloading.
2. Some download sites use a timed download auto-start which means that Safari could start downloading the item anyway, requiring you to cancel the download in the Downloads window after all.

But it would save you from worrying about keeping the Downloads window clutter-free.

How to auto hide DL window on DL completion ?'s
Authored by: Geiss on Oct 17, '03 02:13:52AM

This is along those lines, but does anyone know how to automatically get rid of the DL status window upon successful completion of a DL? I have tried writing a simple AS for it, and while I can get the script to close the main Safari window, it will not close the DL window. Basically, after all DL's are done, I want the DL window to disappear. If you have any ideas please post or email me at geiss@midnightforce.com. Thx in advance.

Not what you really want, but this is what I do......

I make the download window as small as possible, then put it in a corner of the screen (usually top-left, but sometimes other places.

Once you force it behind a safari window, it seems to stay there, so it's out of the way.
