A fix for broken Windows' file sharing
Authored by: jlgregg on Sep 17, '03 11:35:02AM

I had a similar problem with a corrupt /etc/smb.conf file, but the symptoms were different. SMB filesharing would start, but I couldn't connect from a Windows machine. There was no useful info in the console messages.

My solution was to just delete the /etc/smb.conf file (after making a copy just in case). After restarting SMB filesharing, everything was happy again. It seems the file is recreated based on the /etc/smb.conf.template file, though I'm not sure. All I know is that it worked, and I'm happy.

Justin
