View mpeg2 files without the QuickTime mpeg2 codec

I too am a huge fan of VLC. I still kick myself for not realising sooner that the whole 'changing region codes back and forth' thing could be bypassed by simply using VLC to watch DVDs instead of Apple's DVD Player.

I've also noticed that Apple's DVD Player seems to have it's own little quirks when reading DVDs. Discs which are brand new and in pristine condition cause a read error (which quits the app, bizarrely) with Apple's DVD Player, and yet the same disc works fine in other players (such as VLC, or indeed, my hardware DVD player).

Anyway - a big thumbs up for VLC!
