View mpeg2 files without the QuickTime mpeg2 codec
The simple fact is that one player won't do it all. Such is life in the Mac mpeg/divx/avi/etc world (probably the PC world too). I found this especially true for divx encoded avi files, though it has been a few months since I've messed around with digital dowloads.

I haven't found anything mplayer couldn't handle until now. It even plays the movie trailers from Apple, which are encoded with Sorensen video/QDesign sound. Mind, I'm using the latest CVS version with the latest ffmpeg library, so there might be movies an older version of mplayer can't play.
Mplayer and .rm?
MPlayer handles Windows Media files, which surprised me the first time I tried it, and is quite nice. But it doesn't handle RealPlayer files at all, or at least not any I've tried to play with it. Anyone else manage to get a .rm into MPlayer? (Note: this was a local file, not a stream from a website) |
