Or you could just copy the .mbox files file:///Users/UserName/Library/Mail/Mailboxes to the new Mac

I did something along those lines before reformatting my iMac a few weeks ago. Either I made a very subtle goof, or the Finder copy process is flawed, but I ended up losing all the mail that wasn't still in my IMAP (on-server) folders. I was not pleased. Next time I'll be manually dragging the folders from Mail and manually inserting them into the new computer's app.
