Login window in 10.1

In the Login preferences enable the Show "Other User" option. That puts an Other User... button in the login window. You can also, of course, go back to the old form of login screen which requires you to type the username too. Note, however that it isn't recommended that the root account be enabled in the first place. Instead keep it disabled and only enable it when you need it, being sure to disable it immediately afterward. Rather than enabling root, I recommend getting a copy of Pseudo or a similar program and using it when root-type things need to be done instead of enabling the root account. Pseudo is sudo for graphical applications. Drag an application on to its icon or window and it will be run with sudo privileges. Works great. However, be careful to quit any applications you run with it when you are done doing root-type things with it!
