XVID for mac and divx for less-power cpu's
Authored by: askariwa on Aug 28, '03 05:24:11AM

I have a ibook 500 with 128MB ram. The only software that can display SMOOTHLY a high-resolution divx movie with mp3 audio is Quicktime (with the Divx for mac plugin). VLC can do the same thing by enabling "hurry up" mode in the ffmpeg flag (at preferences options).
Mplayer can smooth playback only low-res movies correctly. I dont like div3 (i.e changing the movie archive) because i want to share the movies with the PC-world.
The XVID movies CAN be seen using this method : Open the divx file with Divx Tool (http://www.digital-10k.com/divx_tool/) and change the codec in Divx3/4/5 (try to find what it serves to you) and save the changes. Quicktime will open it without any problem with the video and sound.

If you have Titaniums or tons of ram you can still use my advice for less cpu consuming.
Have fun !
