Excuse me but have you at least try installing the two codecs together before saying it won't open *any* file?

Since the DivX codec was MP3-compatible without conversion (it's been about two months), I have successfully opened *all* DivX, 3ivx, and Xvid that came under my hand (that means about 50 movies from various sources). The only problem I still experience is the bottom green bleeding that plagues the Xvid-decoding through the 3ivx codec.

Especially useful for those of us still on G3. I find the playback through QuickTime less CPU-intensive than through VLC (with less frame-skip). It also works in OS 9 for those who have an even slower CPU, as opposed to VLC.

It seems pretty clear that s/he tried it, or at least understood the issues, as the post clearly stated *which* files would not play: those with WM8 or AC3 soundtracks, and OGM container files. Those are both much less common than DivX/MP3 .avi files, but they're prevalant enough that it's nice to know how to play them.
