I use MPlayer, I find it plays it easier, but not with all the features of VLC, although version 2 is a dissapointment, the only improvement that is worthwhile is the seeking feature.

Anyway, what I've been thinking for a while is why doesn't apple firstly fix the avi bug, or even better, make another version of quicktime, quicktime lite perhaps, that can do everything vlc or mplayer does, but with apple support and integration.

Apple should do a nice job of a light player, call it iPlayer, with architecture similar to the kernel, ability to add and code modules, rather than codecs.

On the topic of codecs, what do people think about the ffmpegX quicktime codec? I find it much much better than 3ivx, it seems about as good as the DivX codec, although I've done no direct comparison. ffmpeg is more appealing because it should be able to play XVid.
