Use an external browser with AOL
iFind that AOL tech support is worse than living in a box w/o a computer or telephone of any kind. :-D AFAIK DHCP is a way to set up TCP/IP properly over a network w/o a user needing to set it up manually, thus using DHCP insted of TCP/IP would be... odd? to say the least! :-) you can always set up a non-AOL email account in a non-AOL mail program, and use the AOL connection, but iDon't think that you can use AOL mail outside AOL or AOL Communicator (which you should definitely check out... it may be beta still... I hope I'm not violating my NDA... I'm confused...) iThink i'm going to go vandalize AOL Communicator to see how it does it. but, good luck

Actually the problem is with trying to use a non-AOL mail account, in a non-AOL mail program while using AOL as the ISP. AOL does not offer SMTP servers (even with username authentication) and I haven't had any luck finding any free, or even low cost, SMTP relay servers. I realize that AOL tech support is about as bad as it gets, but it never hurts to try. I also understand that what the tech support guy told me doesn't make any sense, but i decided it was better to let it go than to try to argue with someone like that. |
