Internet Explorer?

Somebody's still using Internet Explorer for Mac? Holy cow. I'm sure you have a good reason, but just in case...

Jump on Safari or Camino. They both rock. IE is on it's way off the platform, so it's basically a lame duck. A lot of sites, particularly those that deal with important data, like banking sites, require that you use MSIE. But Safari lets you change the user agent (the browser identification string) right from the menu. Camino might do the same... I don't remember.

How exactly do you change the user agent in Safari? I've never seen a way to change that in all the menus I've found...

change Safari user agent

Although you may get a site to work by changing the User Agent, you might be doing more harm then good in the long-run.

If sites start seeing Safari users coming to their site, they are more likely to consider making their site more standards-based.

If they just see users sticking to Internet Explorer and that is the majority of the traffic they get for their site, they are less likely to do anything for Safari users.

Hihi,

There is an application that un-hides the debug menu in Safari. You can download it from versiontracker. It is called Safari Enhancer. Click on this to go to the download page:

You are kidding right?

Spoofing does not always work with Safari. Banks both in the UK and in the US do not support it (Citibank is a good example) and the javascript in Safari is far from perfect. A lot of e-commerce sites do not work with it (Warner Village Cinemas for example)

As much as I would love to wipe the IE from my Applications directory, I know that in this very real world the chances of this happening are one in a million.
