I would suggest just trying to delete
Restore Energy Saver functionality after system update
Rob's advice follows what I was once advised to do by an Apple support tech, which at that time did do the trick. This was prior to the screensaver fix, but was in order to correct my PowerBook not going to sleep.

I use Panther and don't have a /var/db/SystemConfiguration/ folder. |
