A solution for Safari crashes on pages using Flash
Authored by: enentrup on Jul 23, '03 02:10:20AM

No prob with Flash...But I can't go to ANY website and enter text into a search field without Safari crashing. I've blown away a BUNCH of old pref files, but to no avail. I've blown the app away, reinstalled, and still, same prob. Go to ebay, enter a couple of keystrokes in the search field, and crash. Go to my credit union's website, start to enter my acct. no....crash. Thoughts?

A solution for Safari crashes on pages using Flash

I had a similar problem with Acrobat. Worked fine in Classic, but crashed immediately upon launching in two accounts on my machine. Interestingly, it worked just fine a third account on the same machine. The problem was a corrupted ~/Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist file.

Since it's invisible, it's easy to overlook. Try renaming this file in the terminal (just to hold on to it, in case it isn't the solution) and see if Safari works any better with the new file that the system creates in its place. Note: if it fixes Safari for you, you'll have to reset most of your account's Sytem Preferences settings.

I have the exact same issue. On apple.com I can enter text without a crash but anywhere else it will crash. If I get it to work I'll post my soulution.
