Use hard disk aliases to control Desktop icon placement
Authored by: nobody on May 27, '03 06:35:51PM

First of all, this hint is nothing very special, but I found that most people who have problems with moving drives around on the desktop found that solution very nice. They simply did not think about it, because they dont know, the finder composes the desktop out of the volumes and the files in the Desktop folder. They just fight the moving icons.
Also, I want to see a dock which contains 100 items and the user who likes it. Even my son, who tried to put every executable on his disk into the dock gave up after 2 Weeks.
The dock is useful as an application switcher ( but misses some functions even for this job), but as a Launcher replacement it does a horrible job as soon as you use more then a few Applications.

Use hard disk aliases to control Desktop icon placement
Authored by: hasenmaus on Nov 18, '07 10:09:10AM

With regard to hard disk aliases, I have a firewire drive whose icon refuses to hide itself when "Show these items on the Desktop: Hard disks" is disabled.

Any suggestions as to why the icon for the firewire drive refuses to disappear from the desktop?

Thanks
