This is a great hint. This way you can also do other fun things, like renaming the symlinks without actually changing the name of the volume. The downside is that you can't get item info.

First of all, this hint is nothing very special, but I found that most people who have problems with moving drives around on the desktop found that solution very nice. They simply did not think about it, because they dont know, the finder composes the desktop out of the volumes and the files in the Desktop folder. They just fight the moving icons.

With regard to hard disk aliases, I have a firewire drive whose icon refuses to hide itself when "Show these items on the Desktop: Hard disks" is disabled. |
