Use an SLIMP3 server software to stream MP3 files
Authored by: imageworx on May 23, '03 01:50:48PM

Ok, this sounds like I can allow my co-workers to have iTunes open and use up bandwidth. So tell me, how much bandwidth will it use on a local LAN? Say 8-10 users? It won't be leaving our LAN, so is this legit?
(well, the songs are ripped from actual CD library so...rebroadcasting can be implied...)

A streaming 128k song sucks up something like 15-17 k/sec as far as bandwidth needs go. Check out the table for higher bitrate songs for the consumption needs.

Thus, on my 8 megabit ADSL line, I get something close to 100 k/sec upstream speeds which means I can probably support 4-5 users before things get choppy... downstream, I can pull down some serious nice numbers without even trying.
