Erm...

...It's exactly the same resize dot that's used in iTunes.  And Address Book.  And iPhoto.  And just about every other metal app!

Was this tip really unobvious enough to be worth mentioning?

no it wasn't.

next thing, someone will have a hint that says clicking the stop button makes a page stop loading.

interface elements are interface elements... not tips.

... can't win them all. Piss some people off one day, make others happy the next, repeat ad infinitum: the life of a webmaster.

Since I know I can't win them all, I gave up trying long ago. Now, I just do my best, and if that's not good enough, folks will find other places to go read their Mac hints ;-).

Seriously, this is a great hint--I never noticed that widget, and I'm usually good with "obvious" things like this. Thank you for posting it!

hint should have been more general

Yes, it definitely was worth mentioning as a hint. I had never noticed that dot in Safari.
Nor had I noticed the one in iTunes. And I rarely use iPhoto.

Perhaps the hint should have been made a more general hint about interface controls in Metal apps.
