Doesn't work for me (iTunes 3.01, running in OS X 10.2.6). Typing in a string always takes me to the first track that most closely matches that string, regardless of what criteria I am currently sorting by. The author doesn't really state whether "typing" is done in the search box or not (I'm assuming not), but neither way works as described for me.

Perhaps it's an iTunes 4 feature that's not present in iTunes 3; if so I'll find out when Apple gets rid of the peak limiting feature of iTunes 4 - until then, I'll wait to upgrade.

Yes - It's a new "feature" in iTunes4. I am pissed about it because you can't keep your library organized by artist and then type in the song name.
