Disable icon display while browsing networked drives
This is a VERY useful hint for modem connections. When I'm on the road and need to get a file from home over a dial-up, it's excruciatingly slow. I have to use appletalk to preserve file/creator info and waiting for the icons to be displayed is maddening! Thanks a million!
Disable icon display while browsing networked drives
Even with my 800/800 cable modem, navigating mounted drives is painfully slow unless I disable icons AND the preview column.
As a sidenote, it's pretty easy to create an SSH tunnel if your company's firewall won't let you connect. For connecting to my company's SAMBA share: sudo ssh -L 139:sambaurl.company.com:139 myusername@firewall.company.com Then Connect to Server: smb://localhost/ (can also specify which share to use, smb://localhost/myshare) I also find it useful to connect to my office Mac while at home using Apple Firesharing Protocol: ssh -L 8080:mymacIP:548 myusername@firewall.company.comConnect to Server: afp://mymacIP:8080 Seems related. :) |
