Album Art takes a *lot* of space

I took an MP3 - 3,188K in size and made a couple copies of it. I
then dragged the atwork into iTunes from Camino and Safari
from the same source on amazon. The MP3 with the safari
image was about 10K larger - but both were huge! The image
was a JPG, 28K in size... The Camino file ended up 3,351K and
the Safari one 3,362K in size. Both added 160K-170K to the
mp3 just for the picture. Maybe the pictures are being converted
to PNGs?

That webpage seems to mention PNGs being one of the prefered
methods for putting images in ID3 tags.

I've also noticed when I drag stuff from Safari into powerpoint,
it makes the image a TIFF regardless what it was on the
webpage I took it from. Camino will leave things as JPGs or
whatever, resulting in much smaller presentations. I wonder if
that explains the file size difference.

And of course, when you add the images to the songs, it is repeated for all the songs in the album, rather than centrally for all n songs in the album... Oh and also gets stored to the ipod. Why? you can't see the image on your ipod, or share the music from the ipod... Surely there should be an option to strip images out before exporting? Dan
