External OK; what about Pop-Ups?
By now, I'm sure everybody who has looked for this functionality
in the "Tabs" preferences pane has figured out that it's really in
the catch-all "General" pain [sic!]
But that seems to solve only half the problem: links opened by EXTERNAL applications.
What about links within Safari that use
I used the "Insect Button" bug-report thingamawhatzit to send feedback to Apple (Also suggesting that it would be nice to be able to drag tabs around, either from one window to another, or simply to rearrange tabs within the current frame) but I have no idea whether or not they'd consider any of these ideas to be worth implementing. What do other people think? Does anybody else know of a way to get Safari to do what I want, and open pop-ups in new Tabs instead of new Windows? Do any of the other tabbed browsers (Opera, Chimera/Camino, etc.) do a better job of this? And is there ANY tag a website can use to get Safari to open a new tab? [My next idea would be to put a proxy/filter in place to rewrite any occurance of a "target" attribute before it even hit the browser, but that's a little heavy-handed, IMHO, and not very elegant.]
External OK; what about Pop-Ups?
I too would like to have targeted links open in a tab via a preference. This would be a nice feature. Also I like your idea of being able to rearrange the tab order. I have wanted to do that also. |
