Use LaTeX Equation Editor for mathematics in Keynote

There is an alternative program called "EquationService" that implements something similar as a service. (See the application menu of any Cocoa (and some Carbon) apps for examples of services). EquationService is available from the MacOSX TeX/LaTeX web site -- look under "Tools/ Utilities." Version 1.0 of ES is rumored to be available Any Day Now (tm).

FWIW, the "thick" version of this program is, according to the original authors of the distribution of the underlying TeX rendering engine (as they have written on the OS X TeX mailing list), both old and not properly accredited. (That is, it installs an out-of-date version of teTeX. Those with even half-way serious math typesetting needs should visit http://www.rna.nl/tex.html for more information.)

Whoops: In my haste (speed-skimming?) I somehow missed that
EquationService is mentioned in the very first sentence of the original
hint. Oh well: at least the curious now know where to find it, and
people have more options! :)

[Note to Rob and others: Apparently on the web page for LaTeX
Equation Editor, there had briefly been both "thick" and "thin" clients.
The "thick" client has been removed (probably for the reasons alluded
to in my previous message), but did not require a TeX or GhostScript
installation. The remaining "thin" client does require these. Follow
the rna.nl link above for convenient installers.]
