A fix for Compact Flash cards not appearing in the Finder

I've got the same problem -- I'm trying to read the card directed through the camera (Canon S230) on a PowerBook G4 running 10.2. iPhoto & ImageCapture read the card fine, but nothing in the finder and nothing listed in Volumes.

This applies to compact flash cards mounted via card readers, not the camera. When mounted in a card reader, the card is treated as a standard drive. When mounted in the camera, the computer doesn't see a drive, they see (logically enough) a camera. Similarly, I'm pretty sure if you just mount the card then iPhoto and Image Capture won't see it, because they're looking for a camera. But if they do, then I know what little gizwidget I'm running out and buying.

And isn't the Canon S230 nice? :)

I use a SanDisk ImageMate USB CF reader. The card's volume get mounted and then iPhoto opens, offering to import the card's pictures.

Much easier than connecting the camera, turning it on and making sure the camera battery stays charged...

Well, I'll be. Good news for me, and I'm off to buy a card reader!

diamondsw: You Are Wrong. Read the article, or RFTA as they say on slashdot. :) The very headline of the KB Article itself is "A Compact Flash card in a digital camera or card reader connected to the computer is available to iPhoto and Image capture, but does not appear in the Finder. "

And STEP ONE is:

1. Insert the Compact Flash card in the camera or card reader.

Unfortunately it doesn't work, finder still will not mount the card in my Canon S40.
