Create disk images from DVD movies for longer playback
Authored by: toddsnc on Apr 05, '03 01:41:16PM

I may be missing something, but recent versions of DVD Player can open VIDEO_TS folders directly; I currently simply copy that folder from the DVD to a suitably-named folder on my drive. (DVD Player will *only* look for folders called VIDEO_TS.) Creating disk images (for this purpose) doesn't seem to have any benefits as they don't save space, plus they take a *lot* longer to create than simply copying. I've not had any problems with playback either do to encoding or quality issues. So if the disk image method has advantages over copying the folder I would be glad to hear. (I am not talking about ripping DVDs to an alternate format such as divx, which is really another topic altogether.) Cheers!
