Potential issue with Safari and display of bold text

Safari is a Cocoa app, so it requires that the actual font style (e.g. bold, italic) be available for rendering. This is true of any Cocoa app. You can test this if you open up Simpletext and use LucidaGrande as a font, you will only be able to use regular and bold but not italic. Other browsers, such as MSIE use Carbon api's which use a different rendering model (QuickDraw) to display the text. It's a limitation in Cocoa apps, but I personally don't mind because the fonts render much better in Cocoa then Carbon.

If you are designing web pages, you should make sure that the appropiate font styles exist for OSX users (e.g. using Helvetica for italics if your page defaults to LucidaGrande).
