Explaining the Finder's view options and toolbar visibility

I'm pretty sure the custom view information for a given folder is not stored in the .DS_Store file of the parent.

It's easy enough to verify this by changing view info and logging out and noting the modifications of the .DS_Store files in the area.

Just try it with your home folder.

It's best to try it before posting--I did.

I'll stand by my description; it was the result of about 18 hours of experiments. After reading this comment, I re-did the test to confirm that the view info (background, icon size, etc.) really is in the parent's .DS_Store file.
