monitor adaptor and headless G4 Server

Resolution settings can be a problem when using Timbuktu to access a headless computer. One tried and true way to deal with it is to attach an old style Mac-to-VGA or VGA-to-Mac adaptor to the monitor port on the headless machine. Once you boot up and connect via Timbuktu you can changed the display resolution on the headless machine. You will probably get disconnected for doing so, but the resolution change should stick permenantly.

Ok, I agree for a mac os x but I still don't understand the need of this for a mac os x server :)
And yes, I used tu put an adaptator when I used Timbuktu on headless macs with mac os. With mac os x, I prefer ssh, it's quicker even if I connect using my modem ;-)

We are running Timbuktu 6.0.3 on a G4 OSX.2.5 with no monitor attached and rebooting is smooth; Timbuktu doesn't seem to care that there is no monitor attached to this machine. I don't know whether it is the machine or the new Timbuktu software... but it works well.

One tip is to do an SSH tunnel to protect the Timbuktu display packets. Do a search on port forwarding ssh or tunnel ssh to get the general idea. http://afp548.com has a good article on SSH tunneling.
