Extend battery life by turning off AirPort

It's not just AirPort that can drain your battery. All of the networking interfaces will draw power when they are active. So if you are using only AirPort, you should turn off the internal modem, ethernet, and Bluetooth.

To conserve energy, I use the Location Manager. In Network Perferences, I created a Location called ZeroAccess (so it sits at the bottom of the alphabetized list) that has all of the Network Ports deactivated. When I'm not using the network, I change my location to ZeroAccess and all that power-hungry network hardware is turned off.
