Switch applications while dragging items

Here's a great example. Launch Terminal. Open Safari and a page. Take a link in Safari, drag. Keep your finger on the mouse and hit CMD-TAB to switch into Terminal. Type "curl " and then let go with your mouse finger. The URL drops right where you want it. Hit enter and the source is displayed. You can also continue typing after you drop the URL.

Is it possible to drag text from a page in Safari? I can drag from the URL pane, but not from a page. I can drag text in IE but who wants to use that?

In Safari (like all other Cocoa apps), when you select the text and click on it, you have to wait a little (like 1/2 sec) before dragging it. Just to mention that versions prior to build 60 did not support drag'n'drop of text.

Great hint bye the way, can't wait to show that to my XP friend.

Switch applications while dragging items

Despite the ill-advised and much maligned switch in key strokes by Apple away from a virtual standard, it seems like it would still be easier to just hit Cmd-option-v in Safari...
