Applescript Workaround
Authored by: noworryz on Feb 17, '03 01:01:56AM

A workaround is to create an Applescript that tells the Finder to open your disk image then tells the Finder to open Mail. Hide away the Mail application and always launch it via the Applescript.

Or do what I do and assign a function key (using FruitMenu) to mounting your disk image and another to launching Mail. I've never mixed them up, probably because the 'mount' key is easier to find (near my power button) and the 'Mail' key is just to the right of it.
