This is a result of iMovie 3 being able to accept any quictime input.

Up to Flash 5 is fully supported in quicktime 6 (so if you try a flash MX or 6 swf this shouldn't work)

When iMovie get ahold of the flash file it probably renders it to DV anyhow, but saving you the pain of exporting to a DV file then reimporting. This friends is why the extensible architecture of quicktime is a good thing.
