never had this problem? ?

Since I use Osx (version 10.0.1) I never had this Problem, I regulary delete the temporary folder on home directory and this does not affect Disc copy at all. I followed the tips on I've got my home directory on another drive on both my tower and my Ti. Both works fine.
I also made Home directories stored on a distant jaguar server for some other users and they also can use disc copy without a problem. (and don't have a 'visible' temporay Items).

On my personnal machines I uprgraded each time the system (never did a 'clean install') I now run jaguar 10.2.3 on both of them and everything is stillfine. I use DC a lot even to mount .toast images with no problems.

This may be on your config only, at least this does not occurs on mines.

I might need to clarify this. It was the background disk copy helper application that reported the missing "Temporary Items" folder, thus aborting the creation of the disk image. Mounting an image was never a problem.
Some more tests on external firewire disks showed that this error will occur unless the target disk (where the disk image is created) has a Temporary Items folder.
The main partition (where the OS lives) has user specific Temporary Items folders in /tmp/<pid>, which of course are not visible within the Finder.

Hope that helps,
