I've got the drain but...
I don't have an external mouse plugged-in. This only seems to have come up since about 10.2.1 or so. Ever since then, if my TiBook 550 is sleeping for more than 3 hours or so, there's no juice left when I open it back up. No external devices attached at all... I do have an airport card, but this even happens when Airport is turned off. Maybe the glitch is that Aiport cards aren't properly powered down in some Jaguar releases.
Unplugging USB's wakes it up
I've found that if I close the lid, then pull out my USB mouse plug, the TiBook wakes up. I had a few battery drain incidents before I noticed this. I'm very careful now to unplug everything before I close the lid and I haven't had any problems.

You may need to reset the power manager.

I reset power management when I got my iBook back from service it does this very often wakes from sleep but not and the mouse is always waking and sleeping. its when I put the lid down it does this if I hit the power button and tell it to goto sleep its fine...
Battery going dead?
The problem may be your battery. I noticed that my PB was draining very quickly, and thought it might have something to do with an OS upgrade. Then I bought a second battery (so I can compute through an entire cross-country flight) and it lasts considerably longer, both when sleeping and when working.

>> You may want to see if you can swap batteries with a friend before investing $$$$ in a new one, though. |
