FruitMenu and NetInfo
Authored by: Robert on Dec 18, '02 03:39:23PM

I had a similar problem. Even command-line programs would hang for up to half a minute, and OroborosX failed reproducibly, apparently because it could not launch XDarwin. The problem was worse with FruitMenu 2.5.1 than with 2.5, but only inactivating FruitMenu seemed to prevent it. Deleting the preferences had no effect.

Finally I noticed some NetInfo timeouts in the console log, and I discovered that I had enabled NetInfo in the Directory Access utility, without actually having a NetInfo server on the network. When I changed this setting, the FruitMenu problems disappeared.

After reinstalling all my Haxies and (gingerly) the preference files for some of them, not only has the sluggishness gone but Backup now does it auto thing too!
