I've used Print Center Repair since the bad old days of OS 10.1.3. (Fortunately, I've needed it a lot less under 10.2.) When you can't print, it's a lifesaver. Three advantages this has over the D.I.Y approach: (1) PCR is the result of the author's research into the many quirks of the Print Center, so it presents the steps to repair the Print Center in logical order; you start with the easy fixes and progress to the neutron bomb approach only if the lesser cures don't work; (2) the author himself is a tremendous resource for help in fixing printing problems in OS X; e-mail him with a problem that PCR can't fix, and he'll try to help you out; and (3) the utility is not nagware or crippledware; it's true shareware -- try it for free -- if it works, pay the modest shareware fee; you have nothing to lose.
