memory leak

I'm very interested in this, since, on my 400 Mhz iMac, I see the memory being used up, bit by bit, and must regularly reboot (at least once a day, if not more).

So, let me speculate.

After reading the tip, I tried to browse a few folders containing images, using the previews in column view. My Finder memory, as shown in top, went up, but just slightly. Then, when I browsed from one folder to another, many times, through many folders, it went up much more. My guess it that it has something to do with the Finder recording all of the browsing so when you click the forward or back button it goes to the next folder quickly. This could explain how, after many hours, the Finder slowly eats up memory.

Can anyone confirm that this might be the case?

Anyway, one way to purge that cache would be to quit the Finder, and that does, indeed, lower the Finder memory in top...

Kirk

well, I think the memory goes simply to remember file structure and incons/info for files browsed on the HD, which could explain both why pics use much memory and also why just browsing "regular" files might inflate finder's memory useage..
