Another way is holding down the Option key when resizing a column in Finder to make all columns (including the oversized one) adjust to the same width.
The hint refers to List view, the above comment refers to Column view. Holding down the Opt key in List view has no effect.

Whilst the script works, in all the tests I've tried the window always reverts to a very wide Name column after it's been closed then re-opened manually. This is a bug surely. With annoying bugs in every new version of the Finder (and other Apple software and services - iTunes particularly) I am beginning to wonder where Apple's quality control has gone.
