Radical fix for dead iMac center fan
Authored by: harleyb on Jun 04, '13 08:57:25AM

I have nearly the same iMac (2.8GHz i7 instead of the 3.06 C2D) with fully-functioning fans (as confirmed by smcFanControl), and my HDD temperature is reported at 130F. It's high, and according to Google's data (http://research.google.com/archive/disk_failures.pdf) will likely slightly increase my chance for disk failure, but I wouldn't dream of going to the extent that this post's author has. Further, replacement fans are not difficult to find, as searching Ebay for "922-9152" shows many fans available for around $20.
