Die! Die! Die!
I am a fairly savvy user of computing — having built them, managed them, programmed a few hundred thousand lines of code, …
And yet I believe that 99.99% of the US population is in the same sad situation as I am: we would NEVER remember this trick unless we first practiced it maybe a dozen times with a cheat sheet in hand. And if we didn't hand the phone over for a month, that we'd have forgotten it. This trick defines counter-intuitive and non-discoverability. In a more perfect world, it would not exist, so that nobody could claim it did; then Apple might set up a multi-user system, or at least a robust guest user mechanism.
Die! Die! Die!
This feature was meant for a different market where someone might need a kiosk feature. Considering few use the multiuser features of their computers at home to log their kids or anyone else into a different account, I think it's safe to say that this "trick" would do nothing to affect Apple working or not working on a robust multiuser system.
