Another way to remove PDF passwords
Authored by: crackermac on Apr 18, '13 12:19:10PM

Platform: Using Preview v. 5.0.3 (504.1) on OSX 10.6.8.
Problem: Downloaded credit card statement pdfs on which the card issuer had inserted a hidden owner password that prevented using Previews annotation tools.
Solution: "Save As" command. After much research and downloading pdftk (free) and PDFKey Pro (free demo but about $20 for full license) and trying the "Mail Selected PDF Document" hint (which only worked intermittently), I just tried the "Save As" command (duh). That saved a document that had no owner password manipulation restrictions. All Preview annotation tools worked on the new document. My problem solved.
