Save Google Reader RSS feeds

Feedly has no web-interface as such but requires an extension with very broad permissions. And as opposed to Google Reader which has hundreds of clients out there for all kinds of platforms you get a measly selection of clients which, frankly, all suck very much.

Feedly is just another product. The real alternative to Google Reader would be an open standard/API/protocol for what it does and then have hundreds of servers and clients implementing it, so that developers and companies could compete in delivering great software instead of free services to lock you in and sell your data and your eyeballs to the advertising industry.

I think I will prepare go to a self-hosted TT-RSS just in case. But I certainly hope that all the developers of Google Reader clients (which are most of all RSS readers now) will see the light and come up with something that spares them the fatal fragmentation we will get if there will be lots of incompatible platforms and products trying to fill that space. Which probably will kill RSS for good.

May blog-like sites see LOTS of their traffic coming in via Google Reader, there's an outright panic going on right now. Just going to Twitter and giving up RSS altogether is something that is very tempting for them.
