Add info after phone numbers in Contacts

How does this work on an iPhone 5 running iOS 6? The only keypad available is Numeric only. Although there is a 'Pause' key which does insert a comma, there is no way to add any comment after the comma.

This would be very useful when texting friends who own more than one phone, eg one for work and one for home, or one for each of two different countries in which they spend a lot of time (so as to always get local rates for calls and texts). At the moment all I see when a text arrives is their name, not the number of the phone or a label describing it. I have to scroll up though dozens of texts to get to the top of the list, then hit contacts to see which phone I am about to reply to. Yes, I could set up double contacts for each friend with two phones, but that really shouldn't be necessary.

I was hoping this tip would solve that problem, but I cant even apply it! :-(

Tip: Tap the status bar at the top (where the clock is) to instantly scroll to the top of a long screen.

Also: How would this hint help you in your case? You already can't see the number of the person who texted you, so seeing more information in the number field isn't going to improve this...
