10.5: How to abort a stuck Time Machine backup
Authored by: Monique. on Feb 22, '13 05:15:37AM

Help help help!!! I did as was suggested here in the comments section, an entered " sudo service stop
sudo service start " into Terminal. Thought it was worth a try and seemed to work for others. I'm a complete newbie to all things Terminal techie related.

Now all Terminal spits back at me is :
NO LOGINS: System going down at 22:41

Login incorrect
login: sudo service start
Login incorrect
login: Login timed out after 300 seconds

[Process completed]

Can anyone tell me what I should do??!
(Time Machine is still stuck in a rut ('Waiting to backup' and 'Stopping backup' at the same time, for days now) and my computer is running flat out with hardly any applications open.)
