Color a message background in Mail

We're talking about setting the background color in the message list? 'cause that's been a feature (exactly as described, no dragging), for about as long as I can remember. I'd say 10.4 at least, but that's just a guess.

I suppose it might matter whether you're using the old (pre 10.7-style) or new (multi-column) message view for whether a drag is required in 10.7?

Color a message background in Mail

Hi,
I've just tried this but it does'nt work for me.

I'm using 10.8.1 and all I can do is enable the text colour not the background.

Even creating a new message, the background remains white also whether i'm using rich text or plain text
makes no difference.

Is there something i'm missing?
