Pardon the ignorance, but why would one want to disable "smooth scrolling"? Maybe I'm not cognizant of what it is and why it would be worth disabling.

It's a minor thing that controls whether page up/down in a document is instant, or whether it's an animated scroll. On most Macs users won't notice a difference but on the Retina MacBooks it can be jerky and unpleasant.

Took me a while to work it out too.
