New poll: Does your main Mac have an SSD?
Authored by: Longrower on May 22, '12 07:36:39AM

I installed a 250MB SSD into my 24" iMac, replacing my 320GB, but still leaving plenty of room for Lion, VM Ware, Windows 7 Ultimate, and Ubuntu 12.04, plus apps of course. My music, photos, and videos are on an external 1GB HDD on a separate partition from my TimeMachine backups.

Processes like OS X Sleep/Restore, reboot, VM Suspends, app installs, and app starts all happen FAST. Probably 3x - 4x faster than before in general, but I only have 4GB ram installed so I'm sure my system pages in/out more frequently than other, newer systems. And it's the swapping that was killing me (the poor HDD was just chattering all the time, especially with VM suspends & resumes).
