New poll: Does your main Mac have an SSD?
Authored by: JackRepenning on May 15, '12 11:34:23AM

Love my SSD. Like others, I hardly ever reboot (only when Software Update makes me), so while I do think the SSD improves boot speed, I don't much care about that.

But it also dramatically improves context switching: I generally have quite a number of big apps alive, working for a while in, say, Pages, then in Emacs, then running a local Rails app, then Parallels running Windows, all the time with Mail, Tweetings, Skype, and Colloquy live, collecting community. This adds up to way more than my 8G RAM, so switching from one main app to another often involves a lot of paging. The SSD makes these context switches agile instead of ponderous.
