New poll: Does your main Mac have an SSD?
Authored by: diamondsw on May 15, '12 08:02:52AM

I got started with early SSD's on the first generation netbooks (before they moved to slow, cheap hard drives). Even that early/slow beginning showed me how wonderful it was not to have moving parts, and then later models showed what it's like when the OS isn't constantly waiting on I/O - the little Atom-based netbook was running circles around my MacBook Pro at the time.

When optimizing something, go for what has the biggest impact. For years this was memory, as it helped you keep things away from the slow, awful disk. Well, now we can fix the root problem and replace the disk entirely. Not *quite* as fast as having everything in RAM, but it's a huge step forward.
