Interesting. Perhaps an alternative.

When I first saw this hint I wasn't sure exactly what the point of it was, and came to suggest a quicker solution… however, after digging through the whole hint I'm glad I did. That Assistive Touch feature is very interesting, especially the recordable gestures feature.

Even so, I think it's worth pointing this out in case anybody missed it… I'm not claiming esoteric knowledge, just point out a feature that might have been glossed over by some..

There is a lock-screen-orientation button that is very easy to get to. Double-click home, then swipe to the right to get to a tray where, along with some music player controls that I think work with more than just the Music app, is the lock-screen-orientation button.

Your suggestion only locks the screen in portrait orientation. The hint was how to lock the screen in landscape orientation. Big difference.

On the iPad, it can do both. iPhone appears to only lock-in portrait mode.

I have the 'mute switch' on my iPad set to do the orientation lock, and it is also capable of locking in portrait or landscape mode.
