10.7: Viewing Email when Organized by Conversation
I think that the command key is excessive. In my copy of mail, conversations work just like most other disclosures (e.g. in the Finder list view). Right arrow to expand, left arrow to collapse. Actually, just slightly different from the finder, because in Mail, left arrow collapses immediately no matter which message, whereas in the Finder list view, left arrow with a subitem takes you to the parent item, and then left again collapses the parent item.

I can confirm that this works with the right and left arrows without the need for holding down Command. This is also handy for programs that grab the currently selected email (like Things does to add links to the selected email). Even with one of the actual emails selected in the right pane viewing area, Things will still get the whole list of emails in the conversation. By disclosing the list in the left pane and selecting the desired message, Things is able to grab just a link to the individual message selected.

@arcticmac: Thanks for your alternate to this hint. Just tried it and it works like a charm. I gotta remember that. I need a dropdown list of handy hints. Is there any such beast? :-) |
